The Butchart Gardens, National Historic Site of Canada, welcomes over a million visitors each year. Over a century ago, Jennie Butchart began designing and planting what is now one of the world’s premier floral display gardens. This privately-owned, 55-acre garden, located just 35 minutes north of downtown Victoria, is open year round with a unique experience in every season. During spring, witness thousands of flowering bulbs, shrubs and trees bursting forth. In summer, see the Rose Garden in all its glory, along with dramatic floral displays throughout. Every night of the week in July and August, enjoy a live musical performance, then experience Night Illuminations as thousands of lights subtly illuminate The Gardens after dark. On Saturdays, during July and August, treat yourself to a Firework show choreographed to music. As warm days transition to crisp nights in autumn, a stunning parade of red, russet and golden maples make their mark in the Japanese Garden. Winter brings the opportunity to experience the structure of the gardens with the subtle beauty of shrubs and trees apparent throughout. Then comes the fifth season – Christmas. The Magic of Christmas is an extravaganza of lights, holiday wreaths and swags, and “The 12 Days Of Christmas” installed throughout The Gardens. Traditional Carollers, Festive Brass, an Ice Skating Rink and seasonal dining options add to the festive atmosphere.

Throughout the year, in addition to viewing The Gardens, indulge in dining or snacking options in one of the on-site restaurants. Ride the Rose Carousel, with 30 hand-carved animals, sure to delight children (and adults) of all ages. Upon arriving, visitors receive a map (available in 22 languages) and flower guide which provides information for the self-guided tour. See ButchartGardens.com for more seasonal options, then plan your visit.
